Quickening ground leaves a few non-runners at Goodwood
The going at Goodwood has changed to good, good to firm in places after a dry and warm day yesterday and no overnight rain.
Another warm day is forecast for the Friday of the festival, with the first race off at 1.50 and a possible high of 23C.
However two key runners in the Bonhams Thoroughbred Stakes (2.25) will not feature, with King Ottokar out due to the quickening ground and Turgenev missing the Group 3 event after not eating up. Intense Romance and Little Kim will also miss the King George Qatar Stakes (3.35).
Clerk of the course Ed Arkell said this morning: "The ground dried back yesterday, we had a lovely sunny warm day and the ground is currently good, good to firm in places with a reading of 8.3 on the GoingStick.
"The forecast is for a sunny and warm day, there is some cloud about at the moment but that will clear through and there's some breeze about too."
Friday's most noteworthy market mover is the Richard Fahey-trained Teenar in the 4.10, whose overnight price of 14-1 has halved.
