Ever since the tailend of 2017, the punting approach to most big five-furlong sprints has been to look through the card for Battaash, decide whether or not this is his day and act accordingly. He was retired after he failed to fire in the King George at Goodwood, so ahead of the Nunthorpe we might ask ourselves: what now?

It might look too easy to simply take the view of 'the king is dead, long live the queen'. Three-year-old filly Suesa won an unusually warm running of the King George by three lengths. In the process, she rocketed to the top of the sprint division on ratings. She is now out to consummate that position in Group 1 company.
