O'Brien aims to resume domination with Battle Of Jericho

7.00 Dundalk
Irish Stallion Farms EBF Star Appeal Stakes (Listed) | 7f | 2yo | ATR

This is named after the 1975 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Star Appeal who began his career in Ireland and won at Dundalk in its pre-Polytrack days when trained by John Oxx's father, John.

Aidan O'Brien, who has sent out four of the last five winners most recently with subsequent Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Hit It A Bomb two years ago, is represented by Battle Of Jericho, who steps up from six furlongs for the first time.

The son of War Front made all to win a maiden at Leopardstown in July and O'Brien said: "He had a bit of a setback after his win and is just ready to start back. It will be his first time over the distance and we're hoping for a nice run."

Battle Of Jericho's six rivals include Riyazan, who has competed at Group 2 and Group 3 level over a mile since his debut win over this trip at the Curragh in August when he beat Nelson into second place.

His trainer Michael Halford said: "He's dropping down in grade after his last two runs and should have no problem with the surface or going back to seven furlongs. On ratings, he has to have a good chance and we're looking forward to a big run."

Mark Johnston has secured the services of Kevin Manning for two-time winner Lake Volta, who has been placed at Group 3 level since making all for his two wins in August. All of Lake Volta's previous races have been over six furlongs.

Lethal Steps, who has also won twice, represents Ger Lyons, who will be bidding for a third win in the race which was first run ten years ago, while Michael O'Callaghan runs Grace Rafaela, a winner over the course and distance in August.
