'Not many are as hardy as Frodon' - our panelists mark your card for the weekend
Charlie Poste and Sam Twiston-Davies give you their views on the action
Who wins the bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown?
James Knight, Coral I like Enrilo. He’s got far more potential for improvement than most of his exposed rivals, will love the ground and won at the track over hurdles. He also represents Paul Nicholls and Harry Skelton, who have achieved their champion status by regularly mopping up valuable Saturday prizes such as this one.
Tom Park, Weekender editor I’m struggling to understand why Cap Du Nord is such a big price. Granted, he was pulled up on his last start, but that was over hurdles and he has been running well over fences. He was dropped 2lb for his fifth in the Close Brothers at Kempton, form that is working out well, and represents good each-way value. Jack Tudor has chosen to ride Kitty’s Light, but Nick Scholfield is an excellent replacement.
Maddy Playle, RPTV I’ll chuck a couple of quid on featherweight Supreme Escape (3lb wrong) and Larry each-way, despite the fact they’re both due to go down in the handicap. The former is unexposed and it’s interesting his trainer has opted for this race, while the latter won over 2m4f on this card in 2019 when connections lamented not going for this race. He needs to bounce back but he’s now 3lb lower.
