No Monday on Sunday gives No Speak Alexander the chance to shout loudest

Aidan O’Brien has won this Group 3 with subsequent Classic winners Qualify and Hermosa in recent years, but he cannot make it four wins in seven years as he will not be represented in the race.

The Ballydoyle maestro has decided against Monday making a quick reappearance following her tame effort in the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket on Friday, and she is unlikely to run again this season.

O’Brien said: “Monday won’t run. I don’t know whether it was the ground at Newmarket or whether we brought her back too quickly after Leopardstown, but that definitely wasn’t her. I would say we will put her away now and bring her back next year as a three-year-old.”

In Monday’s absence, perhaps the Jessica Harrington-trained No Speak Alexander will be the one to take advantage.

She chased home Monday in a Listed event at Leopardstown last time and her trainer thinks there could be more to come over a furlong further on softer ground.

Harrington said: “No Speak Alexander is in terrific form and I’m very happy with her. The step up to a mile will suit, as will the ground, so you’d have to be very hopeful of a big run.”

Joseph O’Brien, who won the race last year with New York Girl, is double handed with Thinking Of You and Sense Of Style.

The trainer said: “Thinking Of You stayed on well to win her maiden nicely at Limerick and we think the mile will suit her. She’s a nice filly.

"I was delighted to see Sense Of Style win at Naas. She deserved that as she had bumped into some good horses prior to that. Hopefully she can pick up some black type.”

Dermot Weld is hopeful of a big display from course maiden winner A Ma Chere.

Weld said: “She’s a nice filly who won her maiden and is Group-placed. We like her.”
