Newmarket – ITV Racing Tips

Racing Post expert, Kevin Morley, picks his best bets for the day at the Newmarket July Festival in a bid to help you find more winners.

Newmarket 1:50 -

There are a few promising types coming here off the back of decent novice wins, but it may prove best to side with proven Group-race form and Al Suhail fits the bill.
Charlie Appleby’s colt was too keen when well held in the 2000 Guineas last time, but there’s no doubt this is a drop in class and he is the clear form pick judged on his top-three finishes in Group 3s at Sandown and Newmaket last year.

Newmarket 3:00 -

The Coventry is an important pointer to this and it’s not hard to come to the conclusion that Qaader will take plenty of beating.
Following his Newbury success, Mark Johnson’s colt finished second in that Royal Ascot contest where he found the 150-1 shot Nando Parrado too good. Qaader may have landed the spoils had he been sent after the winner earlier, but either way his form stands out.

The Racing Post experts make their selections for the competition.

Race 1 - 2.05 York

Most of these fillies are still unexposed but Sardinia Sunset looks the one to beat, having gone well in the Queen Mary last time.

Race 2 - 2.25 Newmarket

Al Aasy was considered a Derby prospect but sidestepped the Epsom route and may have St Leger aspirations instead, given that he runs in this race. He comes here with plenty of progress left up his sleeve.

Race 3 - 2.40 York

It's hard to ignore the support for Ricetta who was short in the betting for an 89-rated filly even before her stablemate Franconia was taken out. This beautifully bred filly has not been aiming high this year but she was a lot more impressive than the narrow winning margin suggests on the Rowley course last time and is ready for a step up in class.

Race 4 - 3.00 Newmarket

The Coventry form is open to some doubt with a 150-1 shot landing the spoils but runner-up Qaader looks a good sort and should continue to progress for his powerful connections.

Race 5 - 3.15 York

It's odd to see the Dante held after the Derby but it makes this year's race no less interesting. Highest Ground is the most exciting colt in the line-up and he can build on the abundant promise that he's shown at novice level.

Race 6 - 3.35 Newmarket

There are a lot of likely candidates in a race which often throws up some real crackerjacks so Sunset Breeze is only a marginal choice on the basis that he has done well to be winning races on unsuitable tracks and looks sure to be suited by a strong test on this more straightforward course.

Race 7 - 4.10 Newmarket

Enbihaar just went from strength to strength last season and can make it 4-4 at Group 2 level on this return.
