The Briefing: going reports, market moves and latest news for Monday's racing

The going is good everywhere today but there is still the lull that usually greets the start of a racing week, compounded by a surprising lack of runners across the three meetings.

Kempton has suffered most with the first three races numbering three, three and four runners. The Placepot is nearly a Jackpot!

Ludlow is slightly less afflicted but it is lucky Evan Williams is boxing up seven of the 46 declared. Could they be a magnificent seven at the Welshman's most productive track? Williams has sent out 110 winners at the pretty Shropshire track in his career.

The ground has eased enough at Musselburgh for the two chases to be run at its second meeting after the first 19 days ago featured an all-hurdle card.

What to read

Today's racing is previewed with the usual three focus points, two at Kempton and one at Ludlow.

What to watch

Check out the 'cue card' series and the one that featured Saturday's Betfair Chase hero Bristol De Mai.

Is there anyone in better form than trainer Tom Lacey after he made it three wins from his last three runners when Quri won at Uttoxeter yesterday. It might be worth listening to him talk about his Ladbrokes Trophy hope on Saturday.

The best of Racing Post Sport

Dan Childs has the bet for the Monday night match on Sky which is the relegation clash between Burnley and Newcastle.

The sports team has it all covered, from the great to the small, with Aaron Ashley dipping into the second division of Germany's Bundesliga for a bet on tonight's Hamburg v Union Berlin match.

Final thought

Today's Kempton meeting, the annual Starlight Foundation charity raceday has traditionally been subtitled a Nicky Henderson benefit as the champion trainer is one of the driving forces behind the day and usually sends a strong team. This year he has just one runner No Hiding Place (3.10).
