More Mullins magic expected on the opening day of the Killarney festival
The three-day Killarney May festival begins on Sunday with Willie Mullins running two of his Punchestown festival winners, True Self and Pravalaguna, as well as the classy Stormy Ireland and Up For Review on a card that boasts more than €140,000 in prize-money.
Mullins has been in fantastic form since Punchestown and, after sending out a treble at Kilbeggan on Friday evening, the champion trainer will be bidding to continue his fine run of form at the picturesque County Kerry track, with True Self, Nessun Dorma and Bargy Lady representing the stable in the feature €50,000 handicap hurdle (2.55).
JP McManus is well represented in the race, with Barry Geraghty riding Housesofparliament for Joseph O’Brien.
McManus is also represented by Boherbouy, Gran Geste, Bhutan and Rock De Baune in the race.
Geraghty is in action for the first time this season and also partners Gold Seal for McManus in the 2m1f maiden hurdle (1.20) that opens the card, another trained by O'Brien.
One trainer who has enjoyed a terrific start to the new campaign is Gavin Cromwell, and he will be represented by Prospectus in the feature contest.
Cromwell said: “Prospectus has been in great form of late and the softer the ground, the better his chance."
Elsewhere on the card, Stormy Ireland is a fascinating runner in the Listed mares' hurdle (2.20).
A faller when beaten at the last in the Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham, she then unseated in the Grade 1 juvenile hurdle at Punchestown and will be bidding to get back to winning ways under Danny Mullins.
She will be joined by stablemates Lagostovegas, who looks well treated by the conditions of the race, and Good Thyne Tara.
Pravalaguna represents the Mullins yard in the beginners' chase (3.25) and Up For Review will be a long odds-on favourite in the 2m6f novice chase (4.00).
