Sir Mark Prescott has done extremely well in the first leg of the autumn double but not so well in the second.

He has two chances of breaking his duck in the Betfred Cesarewitch, with his leading contender boasting similar credentials to the stayer who, but for terrible misfortune, might have won him the race 15 years ago.

Progressive three-year-old St Michel has been favourite since finishing a fine third for 97-year-old Newmarket owner John Pearce in the Doncaster Cup. He is now 15lb well-in compared to his revised rating, but Alleluia had even more in hand of her amended mark after winning the Doncaster Cup when also aged three in 2001.
