Carlisle stages the ninth running of its unique meeting restricted to female riders on Monday evening, with northern professional and amateur jockeys strongly represented over the seven races.

In past years Hayley Turner and Josephine Gordon have travelled up from the south to take part and this time the presence of Megan Nicholls has attracted attention with the apprentice securing a full book of rides.

Fresh from registering the biggest win of her career on Mannaal at Glorious Goodwood, Nicholls is high on confidence after also forging a lead in the Silk Series, an initiative she has won for the past two years.

Nicholls, who has won before on Carlisle's ultimate ladies' night, said: "It's great to get a full book of rides, I'm just hoping they all run as there's rain forecast. I think a few of them have good chances so I'm looking forward to it."

The daughter of 11-time champion jumps trainer Paul Nicholls has two rides for Richard Fahey on Requinto Dawn in the 6f handicap for older horses (6.15) and Indomeneo in the 1m1f handicap (7.15).

"Requinto Dawn will love ground on the soft side and although he's not won for a while, he's been knocking on the door," said Nicholls. "He can be a bit keen but these type of races are run at a fast pace, so it should suit him. Indomeneo is in good form, having won at Haydock last time, and won't mind the cut in the ground and stiff track."

Dianne Sayer, based at nearby Penrith, has had regular success at the meeting and saddles five runners, including four for daughter and amateur rider Emma.

"We're an all-girl yard and the meeting has been lucky for us in the past as we've managed to get a winner every year bar one," said the trainer. "We've got five runners on the card and they're all in good heart."

The trainer and daughter teamed up to win with Redarna at Ascot in July and the two-time course winner carries joint topweight in the mile handicap (7.45).

"He's gone up 6lb and will find it harder but he's carried a lot of weight before," added Sayer. "He likes the track, is very game and wouldn't mind it if the rain comes."
