If it isn't broke don't fix it. Trainer Roger Varian is following that tenet as he bids to win this valuable handicap for the second year in a row with the winner of the City And Suburban at Epsom's April meeting.

Last year it was four-year-old Ajman King, who gave Varian and jockey Andrea Atzeni an impressive follow-up to their April win over course and distance on his next start.

This year the five-year-old Mountain Angel, raised 5lb for his City And Surburban win, the same as Ajman King, is charged with completing the double having not raced since. Varian is bidding for a third win in the race after Farraaj in 2014.

What they say

Roger Varian, trainer of Mountain Angel
He's in great form and has been trained for this since winning the City And Suburban. With a trouble-free run he should go close. He ticks a lot of boxes with track form and the ground should be fine.

Eve Johnson Houghton, trainer of What About Carlo
He loves the track but would have preferred more rain. That said, the ground should be perfect as they do such a good job there. He's in really good form and we could be waiting all year for rain, so we'll take our chance. He's a dude and we love him.

John Warren, racing adviser to the Queen, owner of Elector
He's in good form and we're hoping for another good performance as he has matured well since last year and the conditions look right for him.

Andrew Balding, trainer of Lorelina
She loves Epsom and can't have the ground soft enough. She ran quite well over a longer trip in her Listed race at Goodwood last time.

Jedd O'Keefe, trainer of Jazeel
We were thrilled with his first run for us at Newmarket, it was terrific. I think the extra furlong here will suit and we believe he'll handle the track as he's a very well-balanced horse. We've got an excellent jockey in Jamie Spencer too. We face the horse who beat us last time [Elector] again, but I hope the extra furlong will help. He goes there with a live chance and I think he'll come on a little bit for that run.

Simon Dow, trainer of Mr Scaramanga
He's been dropping down the weights for a while and ran a fine race in defeat at Windsor last time, just being outstayed. He has come out of that in good form and is well handicapped if able to recapture some of his old spark.
