'Kevin Ryan's always the starting point' - our experts give their big-race views
It's Ayr Gold Cup day. Who wins the big one (3.40)?
Gerald Delamere, geralddelamereracing.com Bookmakers look to be running scared of the William Haggas-trained Khanjar and he is open to improvement, but isn't thrown in at the weights. Three-year-olds have only won on three occasions plus a dead-heat in the past thirty years. I like Zarzyni, who has been running very well over 5f and his most recent run at York can be excused. He was a close fourth to Khaadem in the Palace House Stakes earlier this season and has won over 6f in the past.
Lewis Edmunds, jockey Kevin Ryan is always the starting point in this race given his record in it. Bielsa was the most recent of his five winners of the race and he looks interesting again off a mark only 1lb higher than when winning last year. You would have to give Bergerac a chance too as he seems to be improving and it was a really good performance at York last time.
Owen Goulding, reporter He is definitely a cliff horse but I refuse to abandon Gis A Sub, who was squeezed out at the start of a valuable York handicap last time. As a front-runner, that was the worst case scenario, so the fact he stayed on is very positive. He remains well treated on his two-year-old form and provided he breaks on terms he has a huge each-way shout.
