ITV Racing tips: one key runner from the seven races on ITV4 on Wednesday
Craven meeting: ITV Racing tips
Our Spotlight experts select their best bets for the second day of the Craven meeting at Newmarketand at Cheltenham
1.15 Newmarket
Rossdales Maiden Fillies' Stakes, 7f
Some smart three-year-old fillies could be in line to make their debuts in this, none more so than the Cheveley Park homebred Enshrine, who is a half-sister to last year's Nell Gwyn winner Sacred and closely related to top US mare Lady Eli. The Roger Varian-trained Ameynah sets the standard on her course-and-distance second last autumn.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: AMEYNAH
Second over C&D on debut last October and trainer has a fine record in this race
1.30 Cheltenham
Kingston Stud Handicap Hurdle, 2m4½f
Bold Plan has been rejuvenated on his last two starts and bids to rattle off a hat-trick, while the highly-regarded Sizable Sam has been in similarly good form on his last two outings. Whatsupwithyou has not won since his rules debut nearly two and a half years ago, but took a step in the right direction when a narrow second at Fontwell last month.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: CAPTAIN MORGS
Granted a break since a below-par run at Christmas; solid season up until then
1.50 Newmarket
bet365 handicap, 6f
Pocket The Profit was a prolific winner last term and made the perfect return when an easy winner at Pontefract earlier this month and takes another step up in class in this. Tolstoy was highly-tried last season and makes his first start in handicap company, while Dig Two managed to finish second in the Windsor Castle Stakes last year.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: HARRY THREE
Down the field in two handicaps but leaves the impression there is better to come
2.05 Cheltenham
Matt Hampson Foundation Silver Trophy Handicap Chase (Grade 2), 2m4½f
The popular Coole Cody returns to his happy hunting ground in a bid for yet more big-race glory at Prestbury Park, having landed the Plate at the Cheltenham Festival last time. Stolen Silver was fourth that day, while the classy Simply The Betts and last year's winner Manofthemountain are also among the opposition.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: STOLEN SILVER
Only fourth to Coole Cody last time but perhaps a better horse on this drier ground
2.25 Newmarket
bet365 Wood Ditton Maiden Stakes, 1m
Some regally-bred sorts are set to be on show in this, none more so than 525,000gns purchase Secret State, who is a half-brother to Group 1 winner Line Of Duty. He is joined in the line-up by fellow Godolphin-owned State Event, while Francesco Clemente is a half-brother to three-time Listed winner Abingdon.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: SECRET STATE
Smart pedigree; top trainer, also responsible for State Event, won this race in 2017
3.00 Newmarket
Connaught Access Flooring Abernant Stakes (Group 3), 6f
Ebro River struck at the highest level as a juvenile last season in the Phoenix Stakes and receives weight all-round on his seasonal return against his elders. Jumbly has already won twice at the track before as has Bellosa, who struck at Listed level over 7f last May, while Garrus was a Group 3 winner last term.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: BELLOSA
Lightly raced 4yo, unbeaten in two starts here; 7f to 6f should suit; major player
3.35 Newmarket
bet365 Craven Stakes (Group 3), 1m
All eyes will be on the return of last year's star juvenile Native Trail, with the two-time Group 1 winner bidding to cement his leading 2,000 Guineas claims in the recognised trial. He looks to face a straightforward task, but the Aidan O'Brien-trained Star Of India and Claymore – an impressive winner at the track on his debut last year – could have something to say about that.
SPOTLIGHT TIP: NATIVE TRAIL
Last season's top 2yo and by a wide margin; extremely hard to beat on that evidence
