ITV Racing tips: one key runner from each ITV4 race at Newmarket on Tuesday

Craven meeting: ITV Racing tips

Our Spotlight experts select their best bets for the first day of the Craven meeting at Newmarket

bet365 British EBF Maiden Fillies' Stakes, 5f

Tuesday's Newmarket opener is a bit of a guessing game in that it involves unraced two-year-old fillies. Trainer George Boughey had a good record with juveniles last term and he is two-handed here with Cloud Flyer and Bojink – with William Buick booked to ride the latter. The Clive Cox-trained Lost Angel was a 150,000gns yearling, while Powerdress was a £130,000 yearling and will make her debut for Richard Hannon.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Family Ties

Bred to be speedy; yard's first 2yo runner this year made winning debut; appealing profile

Weatherbys Bloodstock Pro Handicap, 6f

Bergerac has run solid races to finish third on both his starts this season and could build from that off the same mark. Stone Of Destiny could be the main danger back in handicap company, based on his Listed sixth at Meydan in January, while Beyond Equal and Chipstead are the only last-time-out winners in the 13-runner field, the latter bidding for a four-timer.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Chipstead

Landed hat-trick at Bath last season and may not have reached his ceiling yet

2.25 Newmarket
bet365 European Free Handicap (Listed), 7f

New Science was beaten by stablemate Sovereign Prince when long odds-on to win the Jumeirah Classic at Meydan last time out, but could bounce back on his first domestic run of the season dropping back to the 7f trip over which he landed last year’s Pat Eddery Stakes.

The Shadwell-owned Ribhi is unbeaten over 6f but was beaten on his only run over this distance, while Tacarib Bay ran a huge race to finish third in Group 3 company when last seen in October. Honey Sweet is the only filly in the five-runner field and goes for back-to-back Listed wins, having taken the Prix Zeddaan at Deauville on her final start as a two-year-old.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Ribhi

2-3 last season when displaying considerable potential; one to note

3.00 Newmarket
bet365 Earl Of Sefton Stakes (Group 3), 1m1f

The 2,000 Guineas runner-up Master Of The Seas makes his first start since a gelding operation and aims to add this race to his Newmarket Group-winning collection, which already includes the Superlative and Craven Stakes.

Bell Rock beat subsequent Golden Mile winner Maydanny over course and distance in last season’s Suffolk Stakes and the three-time Newmarket winner is well worth another go in Group company. South African import and serial bridesmaid Catch Twentytwo is interesting on his first start for Jane Chapple-Hyam.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Megallan

Group 3 winner last August and he's a key player on his return to action

3.35 Newmarket
Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes (Group 3), 7f

The lightly raced Ribbon Rose made a winning debut over course and distance and has gone in again since for Marco Botti. The more experienced Flash Betty could threaten Ribbon Rose’s unbeaten record after outrunning her odds when finishing a close second in Montrose Stakes. Rockfel 1-2 Hello You and Cachet, as well as Maureen Brittain Memorial Empress Fillies' Stakes winner System also return to Newmarket.

SPOTLIGHT TIP: Cachet

Placed in Group races here last autumn; strong contender on her reappearance
