Faugheen v Samcro feels like the equine equivalent of Arsenal v Manchester United. Two former greats gripping on to the past by the grit at the top of their fingernails.

Faugheen, in fairness to him, has been doing a pretty good impression of Peter Pan these days. He might not be as good as he once was, certainly not as fast, but he has not acted his age at all.

Instead he has been skipping merrily through the mud at Limerick and became the first 12-year-old to win a Grade 1 novice chase in modern memory at Leopardstown. If he walks past you in the parade ring, don't you dare tell him what age is actually is. What he doesn't know won't hurt him.
