Irish Oaks is without its most important VIP but it's still a Classic Saturday

Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No, it's actually a bird hitting a plane and it has deprived us from seeing Superman and a potential super woman in the Juddmonte Irish Oaks.

Frankie Dettori and Emily Upjohn were the A-listers the red carpet had been rolled out for at the Curragh on Saturday but, alas, that won't be happening now.

We were preparing ourselves for a special renewal of vows between Dettori and the Gosdens as a first Group 1 since their much-publicised 'sabbatical' last month appeared a foregone conclusion, but a bird strike into the plane that was supposed to be carrying Emily Upjohn at Stansted has left the Curragh Classic without its most important VIP.
