As a consequence of the Irish Grand National not being run last season, this race has received a cash injection to elevate the purse to €125,000, and it shows.

There is real quality on show and no trainer has directed as many runners towards this valuable prize as Gordon Elliott, who is responsible for eight of the declared field, including one reserve.

Kim Muir winner Milan Native, Paddy Power Chase winner Roaring Bull, Thyestes Chase winner Monbeg Notorious and Cheb De Kerviniou appear the most obvious contenders.

Willie Mullins relies solely on Voix Des Tiep but his brother, Tom, has an trio in Court Maid, Chavi Artist and Scoir Mear.

Local trainer Dermot McLoughlin appears to have a live player in Captain CJ, who showed good form as a novice chaser last term.

What they say

Gordon Elliott, trainer of Milan Native, Death Duty, Dounikos, Roaring Bull, Monbeg Notorious, Cheb De Kerviniou, General Principle and Out Sam
It won't be easy for Milan Native off top weight but he's a Kim Muir winner and seems to be in good form. Death Duty ran well in the Troytown but Dounikos has not showed his best form for some time. Roaring Bull is another who ran well in the Troytown while Monbeg Notorious is not the easiest to predict. Cheb De Kerviniou will love the trip but may prefer softer ground while the same can be said for Out Sam. This course and distance appears to bring out General Principle.

Dermot McLoughlin, trainer of Captain CJ
I was very disappointed with him at Cork. Nothing came to light but he seems to have come out of the race well and hopefully he can leave that run behind him.

Tom Mullins, trainer of Court Maid, Scoir Mear and Chavi Artist
Court Maid will need to leave her last run behind but has won around Fairyhouse before and I think it’s the right race to go. Chavi Artist is also an unknown as regards the trip but he’s in great form and this was the obvious race to go with for him. Scoir Mear bumped into the handicap blot in the Troytown but is in good form.

Willie Mullins, trainer of Voix Des Tiep
He ran okay at Navan a couple of weeks ago and will handle the ground. This is a big step up in trip but we don’t think that will be any harm.

Joseph O'Brien, trainer of High Sparrow
He had a good run in the Cork Grand National and appears to appreciate those sort of conditions so hopefully he can run well.

Paul Nolan, trainer of Mon Lino
He was second in this race last year and comes into this race off the back of a good run over hurdles at Clonmel. It’s very competitive but we know our lad stays.
