In-form Speak In Colours bids for further success in Ballycorus Stakes
5.30 Fairyhouse
Group 3 Rybo Ballycorus Stakes | 7f | 3yo+ | RTV
Life on the road seems to be suiting Speak In Colours. He's emerged from lockdown in great spirits and has had more trips away than any one person could wish for this year, and better still, he usually comes back home to his bed on the hill with a lot more money than he left with.
He'd already been to Riyadh this year before he made his return to finish second in the Gladness at the Curragh followed by a solid fifth in the Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot.
Joseph O'Brien was rewarded for keeping te five-year-old moving when he landed career win number six in the Greenlands Stakes at the Curragh – the standout piece of form on show here.
If there is one question mark hovering over the galavanting grey, it is whether he can prove as effective over seven furlongs, although he was placed in the Prix de La Foret last season.
So far, Speak In Colours has yet to register a victory in three attempts over the trip, while Surrounding is unbeaten in two starts over the course and distance for Michael Halford.
Another who has clocked up the air miles, Surrounding is racing for the first time since returning from a winter stint in Dubai, with Halford stating that she should come forward for the run.
It is far from a two-horse race and Gustavus Weston should not be underestimated despite having never won over the trip. However, he did land his maiden at the track as a two-year-old over six furlongs and the booking of Danny Mullins is interesting.
What they say
Joseph O'Brien, trainer of Speak In Colours
He came out of the Curragh very well and we're hoping for another good run from him. He hasn't won over the trip but he was placed in a Foret. He's taking his racing very well and we're happy with him.
Tom Hogan, trainer of Rhydwyn
He ran well at Limerick and seems to have come forward for that but he will need to. We hope he can take the next step and run well. I think seven [furlongs] is his trip.
Michael Halford, trainer of Surrounding
I'm happy with her. Speak In Colours is a classy rival but Surrounding has been a wonderful servant and in general she doesn't know how to run a bad race. We gave Surrounding a nice break after Dubai and she might even be sharper for the run.
