'He's sure to do better over fences' - our experts on the Cheltenham action

It's Paddy Power Gold Cup day at Cheltenham. Who wins?

Ben Bromley, jockey Ga Law catches my eye as he has more to offer in his second season over fences and has the benefit of a run in the Old Roan Chase, but there's no stopping Paul Nicholls in these big Saturday races so I'll go for Il Ridoto. Paul's horses are in fantastic form and Il Ridoto is another open to improvement over fences and has his first start since wind surgery.

Jamie McBride, William HillFrench Dynamite looks the most likely winner. He has the benefit of a run under his belt this season and the form of his Punchestown run in the spring on handicap debut has worked out really well.

Tim Peters, commentator I can see Umbrigado outrunning his odds. After a frustrating campaign last season, he's got back on track with two good efforts over hurdles at Newton Abbot. He's still lightly-raced over fences and is running off the same mark as when winning the Greatwood Gold Cup at Newbury in the spring of 2021. The application of first-time blinkers could also eke out further improvement too. The Pipe name is synonymous with this race and he can make his presence felt.
