No favourite has won this historic handicap since 2000, so it could pay to think outside the box when it comes to cracking the big-race puzzle.

Unexposed three-year-old Janoobi, trained by Ger Lyons, is one of the most appealing candidates towards the head of the market, but improvement is required from his course-and-distance defeat at 11-10 here three weeks ago.

Fellow three-year-old Good Heavens has been progressing with each start this season, scoring readily at Cork when last seen, but eight of the last nine runnings of this contest have gone the way of older rivals.

Ado McGuinness has rattled the crossbar in the Irish Cambridgeshire in recent years and saddles six in a bid to bag a first win in the race.

Topweight Casanova, partnered by 7lb claimer Adam Caffrey, could prove the pick of the bunch considering he should relish returning to this trip after a couple of solid efforts at the Galway festival.

Harrington preparing three-pronged attack for repeat bid

Jessica Harrington caused a 28-1 upset in this race 12 months ago with Bopedro and returns with an arguably stronger squad this time in a bid to plunder the €100,000 prize again.

Shergar Cup scorer Jungle Cove has been in rude health this season and is reunited with 10lb claimer Dylan Kidd, who made a dream start to his career when landing a €100,000 Leopardstown premier handicap on his first ride aboard the talented five-year-old last month.

Harrington said: "Jungle Cove has to be one of my favourite horses and he's in the form of his life. He's been amazing. Dylan knows him well and taking 10lb off his back brings him down to a good weight, but it's a very competitive handicap."

Stable jockey Shane Foley maintains his partnership with the useful Cowboy Justice, who last time finished an admirable third in the Colm Quinn BMW Mile when bidding to become the first three-year-old to win the race since 2004.

Harrington's big-handicap team is completed by the consistent That's Just Dandy, who carries just 8st 4lb when factoring in Nathan Crosse's 3lb claim.

"It was a brilliant run from Cowboy Justice last time at Galway," said Harrington. "He seemed to handle himself very well in that big field and I was delighted with That's Just Dandy [when third] at Doncaster last time. He's got a very nice weight."

What they say

Ado McGuinness, trainer of Casanova, Saltonstall, Spanish Tenor, Star Harbour, Sirjack Thomas and Pierre Lapin
Casanova has gone up in the weights without winning one lately but is in cracking form. Saltonstall was a bit disappointing last time at Galway. He was fourth in this race last year off 105 last year though, so hopefully he'll run a big race off 97 now. Spanish Tenor would have a chance on his best form. Star Harbour and Sirjack Thomas both seem to run well at the Curragh so fingers crossed they have live chances. Pierre Lapin's best two runs this year have been here too and we're hoping he'll run a big race.

Michael Grassick, trainer of Verhoyen
He ran well last time at Roscommon when his big weight probably told. If he stays, hopefully he'll have a chance in an ultra-competitive race.

Joseph O'Brien, trainer of Good Heavens and Federal
Good Heavens won really well at Cork last time. He's done well since and goes there with a live chance. We were happy with Federal's comeback run at Cork after a long time off. He's been given a bad draw [in stall 21] but is in good order.

Mick Mulvany, trainer of Big Baby Bull and Comfort Line
Big Baby Bull has a bad draw [in stall 25] but you'd be hoping for a big run. I thought he was a bit unlucky two starts ago at Galway. The handicapper gave Comfort Line a bit of a chance by dropping him a few pounds [when winning at Navan on Thursday]. I'd prefer a drop of rain but I hope he'll run a big race.

Joe Murphy, trainer of Celtic Crown
She was brilliant on her last start at the Curragh and the reason she hasn't run since is because we're waiting for an ease in the ground. Fingers crossed they have the ground as good, rather than good to firm. We're hoping for a big run.

Jack Davison, trainer of Massaman
I think he'll run really well and that we'll see a career-best performance from him. A mile on quick ground is what he wants, and they'll go a gallop to suit him. I'm hopeful that he's a couple of pounds ahead of his mark, but we'll find out on Saturday. He's taken an age to come into himself because he's such a big horse but his work is really good.
