If Sole Power is not successful on Saturday he will do something never done before in his illustrious eight-season long racing career: he will have gone through a campaign without a single victory.
The five-time Group 1 winner has won at least once every season to date, often more. But in his seven starts in 2016 the closest he has come is third, beaten a nose and a short head, on his first start of the year in a Group 3 at Meydan. To aid his chances he is dropping out of Group company for the first time since March 2013, a run of 32 races.
