The Paddy Power Gold Cup looks as competitive as ever. Who wins?

Martin Dixon, Racing TV I like Midnight Shadow. He’s maybe a bit overpriced as he’s not from one of the big southern yards but we know he goes well at the track. It didn’t happen for him last season when Sue Smith’s horses were quiet enough but he appeared back to his best in the Old Roan Chase last time when he looked as if he would improve for the run.

Brian Gleeson, ITV/RTE Al Dancer has a tremendous record fresh and could give Sam Thomas his biggest day as a trainer. Simply The Betts is a dual course-and-distance winner who ought to give his supporters a good run for their money. Lalor, initially a 20-1 shot ante-post, is a fascinating runner. The money indicates team Nicholls are expecting a huge effort. If the wind operation has had the desired effect he could be the one they all have to beat.
