This was always set to be a big day for Hayley Turner. At 11.30am, a few hours before that day becomes even bigger than she can have expected, the sport's long-time poster girl arrives at Ascot with father Richard by her side.

For what will be her tenth Dubai Duty Free Shergar Cup, Turner has come with a large entourage. As well as her dad, the most successful female Flat jockey in British racing history has brought her mother, two sisters, niece, best friend, boyfriend and Nana Bunny. All of them are hoping to see the girl they love ride a winner on the card that has motivated her briefly to come out of retirement.

Turner will soon head off to the weighing room. Her official supporters are off to Box 209, where handsome quantities of food and drink await.
