Eoin Walsh was one good jump away from being a Cheltenham Festival-winning jockey. He was staying on strongly and about to take the lead on Column Of Fire in the Martin Pipe, only for the six-year-old to plough through the final flight and come down.

It was a bitter pill for his promising 23-year-old jockey to swallow, but it did not take the Mallow native long to get over it as he came out 24 hours later and won the bumper at Navan on the Noel Meade-trained Barbary Master.

The way he is progressing, compensation at Cheltenham will not be far away. He has already been successful in one of the hottest handicap chases of the entire season courtesy of Cap York who landed the Leinster National at Naas last Sunday week. This is a man going places fast.
