Frankie Dettori fear factor: how we rate the superstar jockey's Saturday rides
Whether the bookies are right or not to be running from Frankie Dettori is a moot point; running they are.
The likes of Dettori's magnificent seven in September 1996 are a once-in-a-generation event, but plenty seem to think that another is overdue nearly 23 years on and there is no doubt that Dettori is the man in demand at the moment.
Even if the seismic six-timer does not come off on Saturday, another big haul on the lines of Royal Ascot or Coral-Eclipse day would still undoubtedly make for an expensive day for the layers.
The odds are long, obviously, but how worried should they be? Here is an assessment of all Dettori's mounts* at Newmarket on Saturday from the Racing Post's betting editor Keith Melrose, with the ratings ranging from one star to three stars (the higher the rating the greater the fear).
*Honest Albert, a hot fancy for Dettori in the bet365 Mile Handicap (2.20), was declared a non-runner on Saturday morning
Frankie factor: our verdicts and ratings
1.50
Baaqy (7-2 - all prices correct as of 9am Saturday)
Not much to go on here, only two of these fillies have run before and neither showed all that much. John Gosden, Baaqy's trainer, won this with subsequent Fred Darling winner Dabyah three years ago, but Light Blush in particular looks a formidable opponent.
Fear factor: **
2.55
Maxi Boy (7-1)
Overcame greenness to win on his debut and was sent straight into the Coventry, where he shaped a bit better than eighth, especially with an eye on moving up to this trip. There's a case to be made for just about all of these, though.
Fear factor: **
3.30
Vale Of Kent (8-1)
Has plenty of form in big-field handicaps, mostly at Ascot and Goodwood. Can be forgiven his latest run but needs to be at his very best. A likely pace angle in this race, though, and Dettori is a masterful judge on a prominent racer.
Fear factor: *
4.40
Advertise (4-1)
There is room for a star 6f performer after Blue Point's retirement and the Commonwealth Cup winner would be as well placed as any. He is just one of several emerging names in this field, while veterans like Brando will test his mettle too.
Fear factor: **
Hareeq (11-2)
Lightly raced for Sir Michael Stoute and has improved this year for Richard Hughes, running as well as ever when fourth at Ayr off this mark last time. Takes on a few unexposed sorts here and looks a bit vulnerable.
Fear factor: *
