Murphy's Phoenix Star to rise above penalty at Wolverhampton
Amy Murphy: trainer of Phoenix StarCredit: Mark Cranham
Amy Murphy took over the training of the promising Phoenix Star on the retirement of his previous trainer Chris Dwyer, and he has his first run for Southgate Stables in the Betway Novice Median Auction Stakes (5.45) at Wolverhampton.
The son of Alhebayeb has not been sighted since spreadeagling a field of subsequent winners at Yarmouth last June, when he sprinted clear in the last furlong to score by a length and three-quarters.
Since moving down Newmarket's Hamilton Road to Murphy, Phoenix Star has been showing up well in his work and is expected to defy a 7lb penalty against a field made up of exposed types and debutants.
