Hamdan Al Maktoum has never been averse to making a splash at the sales, which is what he did when spending €400,000 on this son of Style Vendome earlier this year.

By far the most expensive offspring of the stallion sold at auction, Jahaafel boasts a classy pedigree and must have impressed in his breeze before the Arqana May Sale.

He holds no entries outside tonight, and it will be fascinating to see whether the money proves well spent by Sheikh Hamdan.

Perfection6.55 Chelmsford

A race full of intrigue and potential for the future with several big trainers and owners unleashing horses with exciting pedigrees.

For example, Phantasmic is a Frankel half-sister to Group 1-winner Total Gallery and cost 675,000gns; Final Treat is a half-sister to dual 1,000 Guineas winner Finsceal Beo, while Diablery is a Dalakhani daughter of Cheveley Park Stakes winner Magical Romance.

However, the strong favourite for the contest is Cheveley Park Stud’s Perfection, an unraced daughter of Dutch Art. She holds no fancy entries, but a bold performance tonight could make her an interesting sort for the future.

7.55 Chelmsford

Having parted with their previous flagbearer Supersta, the Rod In Pickle partnership will be hoping Wild Acclaim can step into the breach.

Supersta was a revelation for these owners, winning seven races and improving 39lb after being picked up for £4,500 in September 2015. He was sold last month for 20,000gns.

Wild Acclaim cost a little more than Supersta, 18,000gns to be exact, and makes his debut for trainer Mick Appleby after 160 days off the course.
