Frankel won this 12 years ago after a maiden win and the promising Nostrum has the same form figure and Juddmonte colours as he attempts to follow suit.

This used to be a conditions race but Nostrum looked a black-type prospect in the making when winning on his debut over seven furlongs at Sandown in July, a race which is already working out well. Third-placed Arrest has since won as has Batemans Bay, who finished fifth.

Nostrum was scheduled to return to Sandown to tackle the Group 3 Solario Stakes after his debut, but missed that with a minor allergy issue. Sir Michael Stoute has rerouted him to the race he won for connections with Sangarius in 2018.

Barry Mahon, racing manager to Juddmonte, who was in Newmarket last week to see Nostrum, said: "Sir Michael Stoute and the team are all happy with Nostrum, although we probably don't want to see too much rain for him. He's in good shape. It's the next step and we are hopeful he can step up."

Despite concerns about the ground, the son of Kingman does have soft-ground performers in his family.

Mahon added: "His brother Imaging, who went to Australia, handled the soft and these Kingmans go on anything. So, as long as it's not very wet, he should be okay."

Charlie Appleby and William Buick combined to win this a year ago with subsequent Jersey Stakes winner Noble Truth and are back for a repeat with Desert Order, who won the Convivial Maiden Stakes over this distance at York last time.

The Godolphin runner had previously finished a short-head second at Sandown and was third on debut at Newmarket.

Appleby said: "Desert Order hasn't done much wrong so far and brings experience into this race. We felt this was the right time to test him at Listed level ahead of the back end of his two-year-old season."

Tom Clover took his filly Crystallium out of Thursday's May Hill Stakes to run her in this against the colts over a distance she won over on her debut at Chelmsford 15 days ago.

He said: "Crystallium has been in good form since Chelmsford and this looks a good opportunity to get some black type. She wouldn't want very soft ground but if it's the soft side of good she should be okay."

All-weather novice winners Zu Run (Chelmsford) and Hougoumont (Newcastle) make up the five-runner field.
