Frankel had the wow factor. In Ascot's Princess Margaret Stakes last July so too did one of his children.

On that midsummer afternoon Fair Eva, carrying the same Frankel colours of Khalid Abdullah, was magnificent, storming to a four-length victory. That earned her Qipco 1,000 Guineas favouritism, but market leadership was lost when she succumbed to odds-on defeats in York's Lowther Stakes and on the Classic track in the Rockfel Stakes.

Those reverses inevitably dent confidence in her claims, but such was the manner of the Ascot success many will still expect a huge run from James Doyle's mount.

"This race is coming at the right moment and she's exactly as I would want her to be," said trainer Roger Charlton.

"She has been to the races twice, including when James rode her at Newbury the day after the Greenham meeting. She finished off her gallop very well there and James seemed happy with her.

"There remains a question mark about her last two races. I accept that. However, if you forget those two disappointing runs, she did look very exciting at Ascot."

Raising the subject of the Guineas mile, which Fair Eva has yet to tackle, Charlton added: "I get the impression she'll relish the trip. Her dam was a Group 1 sprinter but she wasn't actually bred to be a six-furlong horse.

"Why, as well, would a daughter of Frankel not stay a mile? She is also a very good-moving filly and went into the Dip perfectly in the Rockfel."

ProsScintillating in the Princess Margaret and connections seem to be genuinely positive

ConsPerhaps York's track did not suit her in the Lowther, but the Rockfel effort is harder to explain
