Amid the blizzard of happy memories there is a brief twist of disappointment, something bittersweet to taint the taste of success. Edith Piaf famously had no regrets, but Emma-Jayne Wilson allows herself just one.

"I always have to leave Ascot right after racing's finished," she says. "The Sunday is always the final leg of the Triple Tiara series, the Wonder Where Stakes at Woodbine racecourse, and I need to be there.

"I missed the celebrations last year, couldn't enjoy the after-party because I was on my way to the airport to catch my flight. I remember sitting in the car, champagne in my hair, in my eyes, wishing that my schedule wasn't so tight."
