Brown Advisory entrant looks to extend unbeaten chasing record and George Scott saddles expensive runner - punting pointers for Monday

Punting pointers from each of today's race meetings . . .

Carlisle: Butch puts Cheltenham credentials on show

There is a Cheltenham Festival entrant on show in Butch, who attempts to remain unbeaten over fences and enhance his Brown Advisory claims with victory in the 2m4f novice chase (1.50).

He was a huge improver over three miles last season, winning his first three races before finishing second behind Botox Has in the Rendlesham Hurdle. He had no problem with a drop in trip, however, when opening his chasing account emphatically on his debut in a three-runner event at Leicester in December.

Trainer Olly Murphy mentioned the Grade 1 Scilly Isles or Grade 2 Reynoldstown as possible targets, so he's clearly held in high regard. He was entered in the latter, but Murphy said: "I wanted to go to Ascot on Saturday but there hasn't been a lot of rain around and he needs more experience. We're having to go up there to try to get a bit of slower ground."

Carlisle stat: perfect track record

Ann Hamilton is two from two (100%) with her runners at the track this season and saddles Hello Judge (4.30).

Southwell: Ali Star Bert out to end Harris's jumps drought

Shaun Harris broke an 11-month winless run on the Flat at Wolverhampton last month and turns to Southwell specialist Ali Star Bert to end a similar barren spell going back a year over jumps.

Ali Star Bert gave Harris his last jumping winner when landing a Wetherby handicap chase last February and is now 2lb lower having failed to score since.

The nine-year-old has a solid record at Southwell with form figures over fences of 21212223, and should appreciate a drop into Class 5 company.

Jack Quinlan rode Ali Star Bert to both course victories and keeps the ride on the son of Phoenix Reach, on whom he was third at this track and trip two weeks ago.

Harris was two from two with his runners in February 2023 and two from three in this month last year.

Wolverhampton: Amo purchase out to continue Scott's success

George Scott has had plenty of success abroad since the turn of the year, with six winners in the UAE and Bahrain from his last 13 runners, and looks to continue that good form in Britain where he unleashes an expensive purchase on the all-weather.

Bryant, bought for 220,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale by Amo Racing, makes his first start since finishing fourth in a strong-looking York maiden in October on his only juvenile run.

The colt, who is a half-brother to a mile winner in France, has plenty of stamina on his dam's side and could improve for his debut experience now stepping up trip.

El Ghaawy, who cost Shadwell 90,000gns as a foal, makes his debut for Kevin Philippart de Foy, who has a 36 per cent strike-rate for the owners. He could be the big danger.

Wolverhampton stat: profitable trainer

Backing all Jamie Osborne's runners in three-year-old-plus handicaps this season would have yielded a level-stake profit of £21. He runs Hierarchy (8.30).
