Blackmore has chance to cap her sensational spring on Honeysuckle
The 2020-21 Irish jockeys' title won't be Rachael Blackmore's, but little else has proved out of her reach this season and she can crown a spring that has seen her thrust into the international spotlight when she is reunited with Honeysuckle for one last dance.
Blackmore's sorcery at Cheltenham and Aintree has catapulted her far beyond racing's increasingly narrow confines into the mainstream consciousness. The ironic rock 'n roll chestnut about being big in Japan is actually true of the unassuming Tipperary woman, which is quite something.
Still, for all that she now finds herself coping with newfound fame and all the attention that brings, racing demands even its most exalted luminaries to keep turning up and doing it over and over again. Its latest ingenue might now be recognisable simply as Rachael in the same way that there is only one Ruby, Frankie or Lester, but there will be no resting on laurels.
