Favourites for the two Newmarket Classics have a tendency to be shorter than they might deserve after gradually hardening over the winter while most punters are preoccupied with the jumps. Once spring comes, there might not be sufficient time to change the course of the market. That factor is all the stronger this year.

Quadrilateral was in front when the music stopped last year and has tightened for the Qipco 1,000 Guineas over the months that have followed, with no trials to allow others their right of reply.

While Quadrilateral's form is sound, with three wins from three runs including a victory on merit in the Fillies' Mile over this course and distance, it is not quite the best form in the race. Unwelcome questions are also raised by connections deciding to apply a tongue-tie to an unbeaten Classic favourite.
