As a race of wider importance, the Juddmonte Irish Oaks has no doubt lost out for Love going elsewhere (reportedly York) for her next run. What it has gained is far greater significance as a race to solve.

Too often, the Irish versions of the Epsom Classics play a role that does not stretch far beyond either confirming or exploding the impressions made in Britain. That could not happen by definition in this year's Irish Derby, which took place before Epsom, and the Irish Oaks has only a tangential link with its older cousin.

Two of the eight runners in the Irish Oaks ran at Epsom. Passion was fifth, beaten 15 lengths, the second consecutive run on which she has been held by Ennistymon. The latter is generally regarded as the key link between this race and one won so impressively by Love two weeks ago.
