Auteuil regulars Nicholls and Williams seek Grade 1 glory

While it may be too early to have a strong opinion about the current crop of juvenile hurdlers at home, the Prix Cambaceres will crown a Grade 1 three-year-old champion hurdler at Auteuil this afternoon, with both Paul Nicholls and Nick Williams chasing a a share of the €270,000 prize fund.

Dolos finished third in the Listed Prix Wild Monarch on his only start for Guillaume Macaire before switching to Nicholls, and broke his maiden at Chepstow last month without difficulty.

"He was third at Auteuil before he joined us and has improved massively since then," said Nicholls, who has kept Nick Scholfield in Paris to take the ride.

"He won an ordinary race the other day and it is difficult to know what he is. It is a bit of a shot in the dark but it is a lot of prize-money."

Williams has been campaigning Flying Tiger in France, with a winning debut at Compiegne followed by a short head defeat at Dieppe in June.

"He should be unbeaten really but he pulled a bit too hard the last time," said Williams, who has booked Jonathan Plouganou for the ride.

James Reveley rides the unbeaten De Bon Coeur for Francois Nicolle and will later be aboard Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris hero So French in the Grade 1 Prix La Haye Jousselin.
