A Galway Plate trial in name but probably not one in nature as the topweight Aranhill Chief is rated just 129. You needed to be rated 139 to get into the Galway Plate last year so it will take a massive performance from something here to throw their hat into the ring for the big Ballybrit prize.

Aranhill Chief arrives on the back of a Connacht National win at Roscommon, where he made most of the running under Kevin Sexton and bravely fought off the late surge of Sir Abbot to score by a length and a quarter. That victory was achieved off a mark of 123 and a 6lb rise means that he is running off a career-high mark.
