Japan a major drifter in Eclipse as punters keep faith in superstar Enable

Last year's Juddmonte International winner Japan has drifted out to 6-1 for the Coral-Eclipse, having being a general 7-2 chance last night.

The Aidan O'Brien-trained colt was a disappointing fourth on his return to action at Ascot last month, behind the impressive Lord North.

Star mare Enable has been popular with punters this morning ahead of her bid for a second Eclipse and is now no bigger than 6-5, having been available at 5-4 this morning.

John Gosden's brilliant mare, a ten-time Group 1 winner, faces six rivals including Ghaiyyath, who has also been supported, and Japanese star Deidre.

Paddy Power spokesman Paul Binfield said: "As you'd expect Enable has been quite popular, moving from 6-5 into 11-10.

"The Eclipse has been busy enough and we've also been seeing money for Ghaiyyath."

Haydock's feature Lancashire Oaks is now down to five runners after the defection of Antonia De Vega, who is out due to lameness.

The daughter of Lope De Vega, a Listed scorer at Pontefract last month and fourth in a German Group 1 last year, is one of two non-runners in the race after Dame Malliot was also taken out.

Trainer Ralph Beckett is still double-handed in the Group 2 contest, with his Manuela De Vega heading the market at evens. Hereby, a Listed winner at Ascot last term, is a 5-1 chance behind the Roger Varian-trained Cabaletta.

The going at Haydock is currently soft ahead of its nine-race card, with 13 non-runners so far.

The ground for Sandown's eight-race fixture, headed by the Group 1 Coral-Eclipse, is good, good to firm in places. There are three non-runners at present.

Chantilly has a forecast dry morning ahead of the Prix du Jockey Club and the Prix de Diane. The going is good to soft.
