The days of Frankel are brought to mind at Pontefract today with one returning horse's form on the Flat reading 11111 last year.

That's where the similarities end abruptly with the Warren Greatrex-trained Bailarico, who started life a sore disappointment for former owners Godolphin.

After an equally unsuccessful time under Rules in Ireland but, following a point-to-point win, he returned to Britain with a Flat rating of 48. However, after his five on the trot he returns this year in the first round of the Pontefract stayers' championship (4.00) with a rating of 73.

Exeter and Southwell host jump meetings in the afternoon before Gowran Park races on the Flat at tea time.

The jumps season is winding down for many but this will be a big week for Dan Skelton if a 200-winner season is to remain within reach. With 18 days of jump racing remaining and 18 winners needed, the Alcester trainer has a strong squad at Southwell today and Warwick tomorrow, with both tracks having yielded plenty of winners for the team.
