Three Flat turf meetings, two on the all-weather and an evening card over jumps means there is something for everyone on Tuesday.

There is also a nice geographical spread, with tracks in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales staging racing and ensuring there is no unnecessary competition between neighbouring racecourses.

Tuesday's cards

Newcastle, Ffos Las and Musselburgh stage the afternoon action, before handing the baton to Nottingham, Ballinrobe and Chelmsford in the evening.

Away from the track, it is a big day for Frankie Dettori, who appeals a ten-day riding ban picked up at Newmarket's July festival in London on Tuesday morning, hoping to overturn a suspension which currently rules him out of Glorious Goodwood next week.

What to read

Bath racegoers will see a maximum of just 31 horses on Wednesday, providing further evidence of the impact the summer's marathon heatwave is having on a sport whose average British field size for July has dropped below eight runners for the first time in recent memory.

Ian Williams is to ask the BHA to review the result of the sixth race at Market Rasen on Saturday, when Royal Village was adjudged to have dead-heated with Whoshotwho in the novice handicap chase.

What to watch

Maddy Playle, Brendan Duke and Nick Watts review the weekend action before taking an early look at Saturday's King George meeting at Ascot and next week's glorious festival at Goodwood.

Final thought

Frankie Dettori might be the one appealing on Tuesday but with possible Group 1 rides on Without Parole and Stradivarius up for grabs should he fail to overturn his ban, there will be any number of top riders looking in with more than just a little interest to see how he gets on.

Having won the Goodwood Cup last year on the same horse, Andrea Atzeni must be odds-on to step in for Stradivarius, but who might ride Without Parole in the Sussex Stakes is less obvious.

Robert Havlin is the only rider other than Dettori to ride and win on the unbeaten three-year-old, yet it could be a case of fastest finger first on the phone should Frankie fail with his appeal.
