Market Rasen gets the go-ahead as Merchant Of Venice travels to Newcastle

After the cancellation of Sedgefield's six-race card, today's racing has been cut to just two meetings, and but there was good news for jumps fans with Market Rasen passing an 11am inspection.

The Lincolnshire course hosts six races including an intriguing 2m½f juvenile contest (1.50) headlined by the Nicky Henderson-trained Lisheen Castle, who made an eyecatching debut over hurdles in a Wetherby maiden last month.

Evening all-weather action from Newcastle features the track's normal combination of competitive handicaps and informative novice contests. The penny seemed to drop for the James Fanshawe-trained Merchant Of Venice last time en route to breaking his maiden at Kempton in December and he could confirm that progress in the mile novice stakes (4.45).

Muratello was a five-and-a-half-length third behind Mister Fisher in Grade 2 company at Haydock last month and will be hoping to gain a second second career victory in the 2m41/2f novice hurdle at Market Rasen (2.55).
