All you need to know as the Cambridgeshire meeting kicks off

The Rowley Mile: prepped for racing on Thursday
The Rowley Mile: prepped for racing on Thursday

It's called the Cambridgeshire meeting but, really, it's about the two-year-olds. Two Group 1s plus the Royal Lodge on Saturday, the Rockfel tomorrow, and the Tattersalls Stakes over 7f on Thursday.

A means to an end rather than an end in itself, the Tattersalls Stakes (3.35) has three runners out of seven with Group 1 options down the line. Prince Eiji is the morning favourite, based on his debut win and the small matter of his 2.6 million gns price tag.

Today's cards

There is also the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes (4.10) at Newmarket, along with some competitive handicap action.

Other meetings on Thursday afternoon come from Pontefract, Perth and Sligo, with Kempton taking over in the evening.

Final thought

The opening 19-runner maiden at Newmarket is the only truly big-field race on the straight course on Thursday (the 3.00 also has a double-figure turnout), so clues/red herrings on the Cambridgeshire draw will have to wait until tomorrow.
