King Calypso has a second crack at this staying feature and connections will be hoping that he fares better than last year, when he could finish only eighth having been sent off as joint-favourite.

Denis Coakley's stalwart, who has done all his winning on the all-weather, arrives in good form having scored with something in hand over course and distance on his latest start in May. That victory was his fourth at this venue.

Among the opposition is Grumeti, the 2015 Cesarewitch winner who adds a touch of class to the line-up. Alan King's stayer finished a creditable sixth at York in May and had previously made a successful return when winning on the all-weather at Wolverhampton in March.

At the head of the weights is Handazan, who is set to make his first appearance since 2015. Handazan was once with Alan King but moved to Ben Case's yard, where he raced three times without success, and his now due to make his first start for Ivan Furtado.

Taws has also changed yards, rejoining Rod Millman following a spell jumping with David Pipe.

Failing favourites

No market leader has triumphed in this race since Swingkeel (7-4) in 2009.

What They Say

Rod Millman, trainer of Taws
She's been back with us a while now and seems to be showing her old sparkle. She was Listed placed over hurdles for David Pipe but was second in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot for us a few years ago.

Denis Coakley, trainer of King Calypso
He's come down the handicap a bit and has started his year off well so we need to keep that going. He's won four times at Kempton so knows all about the place and is in good shape at home.

Roger Charlton, trainer of Clowance One
He's up in trip but his dam was second in a Group 1 over a mile and six furlongs so we thought we'd give it a try.

William Stone, trainer of Lanceur
He showed his first bit of form for us when second at the track last month and was value for a bit more as he had a troubled passage. It looks a competitive enough race but we go there with a shout.

Michael Madgwick, trainer of Multigifted
She's won over this course and distance in the past and has been in such good form on the turf that we've decided to have a crack at this better contest. She's got little weight and deserves to take her chance.
