Newcastle kicks off its three-day Northumberland Plate meeting with Newmarket trainers much in evidence in the main events.

Among them is one of last week's Royal Ascot stars Roger Varian, who sends four with chances, including Bowerman, favourite for the feature Betfair Exchange Seaton Delaval Handicap (4.05).

Nottingham and Newmarket give racing a strong spine this afternoon before Leicester and Hamilton take over later.

An evening card also starts the three-day Irish Derby meeting at the Curragh and features the Tote Rockingham Handicap (7.45) which has attracted plenty of British-based runners.

Final thought

The weather has not lived up to its flaming June tag but trainer William Haggas has no complaints with two more winners on Wednesday making it 27 winners this month. He has three runners on Thursday, headed by Faylaq (Newmarket 2.45). The Dubawi son of King George and Arc winner Danedream made the most of unseasonable softer ground and a good handicap mark last time.
