Today is not quite Halley's Comet but a racing rarity as the meetings come from a trio of the home countries of England, Wales and Scotland after Musselburgh survived a protracted morning of inspections.

Just to confuse punters, Welsh trainer Tim Vaughan travels to Scotland for Musselburgh's late replacement meeting – which finally passed its inspection 30 minutes before the first race – with a team of four, with just one runner in his home country down the road at Ffos Las.

The English are streaming across the Severn Bridge to march on Ffos Las and once again Plumpton hosts the smallest field in the latest in its bonus series that will give today's winner a £60,000 windfall if going on to win a chase at the Cheltenham Festival next March.

The Simon Munir/Isaac Souede and Nicky Henderson axis look to have it wrapped up with the talented Fixe Le Cape but after the weekend shocks nothing is certain in racing.

What to back

Find out quickly who Zoe Vicarage expects to star at Ffos Las today.

What to read

Where to start? So many comings and goings from Douvandisappearing for the rest of the season to the BHA's regulatory chief Jamie Stier returning to Australia early next year.

Coming up today is the latest Cheltenham Festival bonusqualifier at Plumpton with a Nicky Henderson-trained contender in today's novice chase. Plus the Welsh trainer spying a chance at a replacement fixture that happens to be north of the border in Scotland.

What to watch

Is it really five years since the last horses galloped past the post at Folkestone? Yes Kent's last racecourse closed at the end of 2012 but you would still recognise it in Lee Mottershead's recent visit.

The best of Racing Post Sport

Monday night football features Everton v Swansea and Dan Childs has the lowdown. Super Bowl 52 is seven weeks away and franchises know what they need to do to make the playoffs. The William Hill World Darts Championship continues at Ally Pally and Henry Hardwicke is expecting Kevin Painter to brush off his rival.

Final thought

Good luck to Tim Vaughan on his adventure to Scotland, which involves according to Google 408 miles there and 408 miles back with a few minutes over seven hours required for the journey by car. His four-horse lorry might take a tad longer.
