One race you do not want to miss on bank holiday Monday in Ireland
3.20 Cork
Joe Walsh Memorial Hurdle | 3m | 4yo+ | RTV
Why is it interesting?
Pravalaguna, who finished seventh in a red-hot renewal of the Galway Plate last Wednesday, is back in action quickly as Willie Mullins bids to continue his terrific recent record in the race.
If the ratings are to be believed, Pravalaguna should take the prize. She is rated 142, 8lb superior to anything else in the line-up, and she receives the mares' allowance from four of her rivals.
The big question is will she stay? She has never tried three miles before and the furthest she has gone was 2m6½f in the Galway Plate where she trailed in 12 lengths behind Borice after being prominent until the final two fences.
If she doesn't, Gordon Elliott will be hoping to pick up the pieces with Count Simon, a winner of three of his last four starts, and Everybreathyoutake, a winner of two of his last three.
What do the stats say?
The last four favourites have been successful and the biggest price of the quartet was Arctic Fire last year at 11-8. Coquin Mans (2017) was 9-10, Simenon (2016) returned at 2-5, while the SP of Ballychorus (2015) was 5-4.
Willie Mullins has sent out two of the the last three winners and he didn't have a runner last year in a race which was won by one of his former students, Arctic Fire.
If you fancy Pravalaguna, you will be pleased to hear Paul Townend has a terrific record on the free-going mare. The champion jockey has ridden her four times for form figures of 211.
What do the trainers say?
Gordon Elliott, trainer of Count Simon and Everybreathyoutake
They are both in good form and have done really well over the summer. Everybreathyoutake seemed to stay the trip well at Limerick so is having another go at three miles. Count Simon has done little wrong of late and should run well.
John McConnell, trainer of Fred The Foot
He won well at Limerick and I was thinking he might have a chance here until I saw Pravalaguna in the race. We look to have it all to do at the weights but he is in good form.
Denis Hogan, trainer of Macgiloney
He ran a cracker at Galway in what was a decent little race. The big worry is that we are meeting Pravalaguna all wrong at the weights.
