1,000 Guineas: key quotes from connections of the challengers to market leaders

Connections of the rest of the Qipco 1,000 Guineas field provide the lowdown on their Classic contenders . . .

Tom Dascombe, trainer of Boomer
Our horses are running sort of as you'd expect them too and I think that's the biggest indicator. She's fit and well and I'm sure she'll run to the best of her ability. Originally we were getting her ready for the middle of April and then we had to ease off a bit. She's coped well.

Richard Hannon, trainer of Cloak Of Spirits
She's done really well over the winter and will have benefited from the race being run slightly later than usual. She's come in her coat and has been flying at home. She did a super piece of work at Kempton last week which has put her spot on for this.

Saeed bin Suroor, trainer of Final Song
She looks better physically since coming back from Dubai. She's worked very nicely but it will be important to keep her nice and relaxed in the race, to give her every chance of finishing well over a mile. She stayed the trip last time out in Saudi Arabia, so I'm hopeful she can do so again, and she goes into this race in very good form.

1,000 Guineas card and form

Eve Johnson Houghton, trainer of Graceful Magic
She's stepping up in trip but loves quick ground. She has direct and comparable form to Rose Of Kildare which looks good. She goes there in good shape and if she could finish in the placings we'd be happy.

George Baker, trainer of Les Hogues
The entries for the English Guineas were at noon on Monday and the French Guineas was the same afternoon, so Dream And Do winning there made me feel a little bit more confident about this, as we were only a neck behind her in the Prix Miesque in October. She's not the flashiest worker until you put her upsides something, then she thrives on a bit of competition. I would love her to run well in memory of the late [bloodstock agent] Sebastien Le Forban, who was such a help to us in France. She was one of his last purchases for us in October.

Mickael Barzalona, jockey of Raffle Prize
She's shown herself to be extremely competitive and looking at her family history it's far from impossible she'll see out the trip. If the ground stays fast that would be a help. She has experience of the Rowley Mile and Mark Johnston's horses are in great form. They think she will stay and run very well.

Hughie Morrison, trainer of Romsey
She's been working well and she's very honest. She was probably unlucky in Milan, we went all the way there after a hard season and it was heavy ground, which isn't for her. She wants better ground and my concern would be if she handles the undulations at Newmarket. We were always going to go for a trial and make our mind up from there. This is the only race in the calendar for her short of waiting for the Sandringham at Ascot.

John Gosden, trainer of Shimmering
She's pleased us all spring and deserves to take her chance although I don't like her draw much and she's stuck out there on her own.

Charlie Appleby, trainer of Summer Romance
She was impressive in the Empress Stakes but disappointed on her next two starts. It was soft ground when she ran at Ascot, and she also got upset in the preliminaries, while she looked weak at Salisbury, so we decided to put her away for the season. She has a bit to find with some of her rivals but has done well over the winter and I've been pleased with her work.

James Tate, trainer of Under The Stars
On pedigree and run-style a mile should be fine. She's got decent form and trip and track should be good. She goes on any ground but any rain would probably be welcome. She's in really good order and I'm very happy with her.

Karl Burke, trainer of Yes Always
She's a lovely filly and while it's a huge step up, the owners are very game. The idea would have been to go for a trial to see if she was good enough but when that didn't materialise, they were happy to go as long as I was happy with the filly. I'm delighted with her. If she finishes in the first six she's probably run a blinder and if she could sneak into third or fourth in a Classic it would be a huge result. She has the temperament and we think she'll stay a mile. We'll ride her to get the trip and finish well.
