1.20 Warwick: the one race you cannot afford to miss on Thursday
1.20 WarwickActioncoach Lady Godiva Mares' Novices' Chase (Listed Race) 2m4f | 4yo+ | RTV
Why is it interesting?
The mares' jumps programme in Britain is growing all the time and one glance at the small but select field for this Listed contest proves why.
Alan King is represented by the well-regarded Alsa Mix, who was a Grade 2 winner against geldings over hurdles last season and won at Bangor on her reappearance. However, her task is made difficult by a 5lb penalty.
Sensulano, trained by King's protege Noel Williams, is also respected, having won by 16 lengths at Fontwell a month ago.
The field is made up by Henry Daly's Chilli Filli, who was behind Alsa Mix last time, and recent Kempton winner Really Super.
Daly has won this race twice and looks for the hat-trick with Chilli Filli.
What do connections say?
Alan King, trainer of Alsa Mix
She's very useful and should give a good account. She was a Graded winner over hurdles, scored at this level on her debut over fences at Bangor and will be suited by this step up to two and a half miles. This race has attracted some decent entries and Alsa Mix will have a tough task giving them weight.
Amy Murphy, trainer of Really Super
She's a good mare and was very good over hurdles. The ground will be soft enough for her, but it's about trying to get some black type. On top of the ground she's definitely a black-type filly, but these conditions are just a bit of an unknown.
Noel Williams, trainer of Sensulano
This race has probably been in my mind since the spring! It seems a good first main target for her over fences. She’s had a couple of prep runs and ran bloody well. I’m very happy with her and Leighton [Aspell] has just given her a final pop and school this morning. It’s a competitive heat, but she’s in great order and proved pretty handy over fences already. I’m looking forward to running her and I think she will be very competitive.
