The Derby trials have come and gone without producing a serious contender to Churchill on the figures, though Permian's success in the Dante Stakes would rate the pick with a Racing Post Rating of 114.

Permian has progressed with virtually every run and this was another clear step up on his previous form, though his winning RPR rates slightly below standard for the Dante, which follows the pattern of this year's Derby trials.

His Dante win is certainly a superior level of form to that attained by Cliffs Of Moher (108) in the Dee Stakes the previous week though, and the general Derby favourite has plenty of improving to do.
