It is set to be a big couple of months for Sam Coen as he attempts to fulfil his dream of securing the apprentice jockeys' title in Ireland, with two winners separating him and Paddy Harnett at the top of the standings.

The 18-year-old burst on to the scene last year, finishing fifth in the championship on 18 winners, seven adrift of Wayne Hassett. However, he has already bettered that return this campaign with 21 victories on the board.

He has also reached that figure from far fewer rides, and has been operating at an 18 per cent strike-rate this year. He rode seven winners from 31 rides in August, a run which has put him in front in the race to become champion.
