Patrick Mullins wins ride of the season for Rathvinden's Cheltenham Festival win
Patrick Mullins's inspirational Cheltenham Festival victory aboard Rathvinden in the National Hunt Chase has been named ride of the season in the annual McCoy Awards.
Riding for his father Willie, the amateur held a midfield position and recovered from a mistake at the 11th fence before coming out victorious in a thrilling battle to deny Ms Parfois in the National Hunt Chase.
The Racing Post's analysis noted of the ride: "Rathvinden dug deep under strong handling from Patrick Mullins and just did enough to land a gamble. He crept into contention from well back going strongly and looked set to win well two out. However, he had to give everything after the last."
The McCoy Awards, which began last year, celebrate the success of performances throughout the jumps season at Jockey Club racecourses.

At a ceremony at Cheltenham on Friday evening, Nicky Henderson's Might Bite landed the horse of the season award. The nine-year-old won the King George and Betway Bowl in a brilliant year where his sole defeat came to Native River in the Gold Cup.
Native River's Cheltenham victory was also celebrated, with the Colin Tizzard-trained star receiving the horse performance of the season prize for his brave Gold Cup win.
Nicky Henderson was named leading trainer with 40 or more horses and Nick Williams with less than 40.
Kate Robinson, head girl for Jamie Snowden, was awarded the stable person of the year award for her exceptional work ethic.
